THIS WAS NEWS AT ONE POINT
Bandcamp is a new website for musicians that does everything that anyone would ever want it to do. We are really excited about it and feel particularly personally invested in its success because one of the programmers of the operation is a faculty member at our school. We have infiltrated the site and have started using it much to our advantage, I would say. It gives us the opportunity to post our music for free download, and you'll see that we have done just that. On Trevor's bandcamp, you'll see Lions, Sheep, and Trains (2005), Acknowledgements (2006), and Tall Ships (2007) for free download. He is still working on building the complete catalog, but it certainly has a lot of possibilities. On Advrb's bandcamp, you can stream all of his new album, Revive Old Wonder. This release is available only on cassette. There are downloadable tracks for each release. It will take a while to upload the entire Advrb catalog, as it does include many releases. When complete, this will be a great resource! On Stingray Migration's bandcamp, you can stream four new tracks from their upcoming premiere recording. Spread the word! For more information on this band, see the posting below. On Mountain Man's bandcamp, you will see a few songs from their upcoming premiere recording that are available for free download. Take a listen and tell your friends! For more information on this band, see the posting below. Pegasissy expects to post a bandcamp soon, and eventually we would like to have every Open Face release available to stream on our various bandcamps. Thank you to the fine people who have provided this opportunity, and thanks to you who are listening!
MOUNTAINOUS 3/15/09 We are very excited to announce two new projects - MOUNTAIN MAN and STINGRAY MIGRATION! These are both Bennington-bred musical groups. They are currently working on recordings, and we hope to have releases from the both of them by the summer. These projects just formed, so we don't have pages for them yet. These are just announcements! Mountain Man is a combination of Amelia Meath, Molly Sarle, and Alex Sauser-Monnig. The three share songwriting duties and weave incredibly complex 3-part harmonies that blend in this way that's just... abundantly rich. We're so excited about this project, and can't wait to share it with you all! Stingray Migration is a 'supergroup', made of Michael Chinworth, Maia Friedman, Nate Luce, Will Lulofs, Roby Moulton, and Ham Poe. In the same way of Mountain Man, they share songwriting duties. They have played shows where they sound like a super-mellow cowboy band, and some where they sound like the Velvet Underground. We're looking forward to the recordings of this group! Faith and Dana (Faith Griffiths and Dana Wolfson) sing with their hearts forward, generously gifting us in song; as visceral as sea-shanties, as kind as an afternoon tea with your best friends. Their passion for food, particularly desserts, is pervasive; it not only serves as the subject for many of their songs, it's also a crucial component of their concerts.
We have been collecting all the information we have about past shows we've done over the years, going back to the ripe young year of 2005! Not to put too fine a point on it, but we've come to realize that we've actually played a lot of shows. It seems every month there was at least SOMETHING going on. There's still a lot more lists to add to the mix, too. MIDWINTER SUMMER 12/29/08 We should be somewhat embarassed to tell you that Advrb's Hot Air Balloon, which has been available on land for months, is now available on the internet! We just uploaded the new page, and it features some mp3 downloads and images. This is another attempt to warm you in the cold, cold months! Just follow this sunny image: On a more informal note, we just wanted to fully endorse mix CDs. Much of our current interests in music were fueled by these magical objects, usually sent from an older, more knowledgable source, who takes the time and energy to help someone else on the way to an enjoyable, fulfilling musical life. Not only do we encourage these kind of exchanges, but we're also encouraging you to use open face cuts on your mix CDs, and to tell us if you're doing so! We will only have nice things to say to you. There are mp3s you can download on each album's page- you can see those pages either by going on our AUDIO page, or STORE, or through each separate artist's page. MASS MERRIMENT 12/21/08 I stand here as a representative of the entire Open Face crew, wishing you all happy holidays and new year! We wanted to give you something a little special- something to uplift, especially as today is the shortest day of the year. I've been working on this song, 'El Regalo', for quite a while. This is a free download, and this song is not connected to any album, so I suppose it's an internet single... How exciting! Will you be the first to download it? It features Maia Friedman and Amelia Meath on vocals, Sam Clement on lead electric guitar, Nate Luce on rhythm electric guitar, and a translation that was assisted by Mariel and Mariela Nunez. Cuando duermo en el lecho del rio, Cuando la marea sienta el regalo, (translation) When I go to sleep in the riverbed, When the tide discovers this gift, Thanks for listening- enjoy! MAUVES OF MOSS 10/6/08 How embarassing, this dry spell! We've all sort of been coming of age, and you can interpret that in whatever fashion you would like. We all have many personal updates, and only a few are relevent to this forum. Advrb will shortly be announcing the arrival of Hot Air Balloon, a summer-made LP. Trevor is working on a few songs he would like to be available for free download. The Bennington College Bookstore has been so kind as to stock our merchandise, and we have been overwhelmed by the support of our peers. Thanks to all! Trevor and The Wailing Wall had a summer tour, and it went quite swimmingly. Most of the Open Faces had summer shows in one way or another. Please keep posted for more updates, which will come MUCH more frequently than they have.
MADE IN EARNEST 4/25/08 Our website is now fully functioning, plus we have been adding a lot of content here and there. There is still so much left to share with you! Even so, we are incredibly excited that the website can now connect people with our music. There are a lot of free mp3 downloads now as well, in various artist pages and album pages. MOVING IMAGES 4/2/08 We've been uploading videos onto our youtube account. We have videos from Trevor's performance with the Gnome Band on 3/21. We also have videos from the show in the North Bennington McCullough Library on 3/28, featuring performances by Pegassisy, Bear Paw, Advrb, and Maia. MAIDEN VOYAGE 3/20/08 Today marks the first day of our site's operation! If you are an old friends or a new one, let us extend a warm invitation to this new electronic home. It is with great excitement that we embark on this new wave of our existence. |
